In-House Mining of Bitcoin Through Unconventional Miners

Open-source bitcoin mining devices are becoming more conducive and convenient for in-house mining, making the process of bitcoin mining compatible with portability. However, the demand for in-house bitcoin mining is still low, and therefore it is considered a niche market as of now. The choice is provided to the customer between obtaining a pre-assembled ready-made unit or a DIY (Do it Yourself) kit for solo mining.

Process of Mining and the Use of Hardware

The mechanism or process of integrating, adding and validating a transaction to the decentralized public ledger, aka bitcoin blockchain, is called ‘mining’. Bitcoin mining involves high-power consumption to sustain complex mathematical problems. The decentralized blockchain rewards the user with freshly-minted BTC in return for the work done by miners and this whole process is the consensus mechanism PoW (proof-of-work).

Bitcoin mining generally has a huge reliance on GPUs or high-performance hardware. However, ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) is considered a better alternative to GPUs as they are more energy-efficient and formidable than GPU miners. This also makes mining any cryptocurrency feasible and compatible with smartphones. However, the computing power of smartphones makes the mining process unsuitable.

Impressive Hash Rate of Bitaxe Ultra Miner

The mining procedure consists of cracking and solving a complicated mathematical puzzle, which is also known as a hash. Mining speed is measured in hashes per second. Bitaxe Ultra is the innovation on the block, which is a miner with a high hash rate. Bitaxe Ultra was created by an electric engineer, ‘Skot’ and it offers a higher hash rate of 0.5 terahashes per sec.

The model of the Bitaxe Ultra is greatly inspired by Bitmain’s BM1397 and BM1387 prototypes. With an energy output of 20 joules per tera hash, Bitaxe Ultra consumes only a minuscule 10 watts per month. It facilitates a direct connection with the mining pool through WiFi without the need for an external computer.

Bitaxe Ultra has many advantages, as it is feasible, low-maintenance and offers the flexibility of energy-efficient settings automatically.  Some features of the Bitaxe Ultra version, such as the ESP32 firmware, are still under development, while the majority of its features have gone through testing and their functionality has been proven successful.

Lottery Miners Supersede The Traditional BTC Miners

A bitcoin miner does not prove to be a decent adversary to its standard-sized counterpart, which has an outstanding capacity; such devices are referred to as ‘lottery miners’. Bitcoin’s open-source model hasn’t been able to stand toe-to-toe with well-known ASIC mining rights, which are generally closed-source

The geographical distribution of Bitcoin’s mining power suggests that the United States leads consumption with a strong 35.4% Bitcoin hash rate, followed by Kazakhstan with 18.2%, Russia with 11.2% and Canada with 9.6%. In the global mining landscape, mining giants like Marathon Digital of the US and Bitdeer Technologies Group in Singapore play a significant role.


Unconventional miners like Lottery Miners or Bitaxe Ultra Miners have more flexibility in terms of temperature and power adjustment and are preferable and feasible options for in-house mining.
