Alan Dean Foster, author of the novelization of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, reveals that the book had a romance scene between Finn and Rey.

Writer Alan Dean Foster has a long history with the Star Wars franchise, as he was the author of the novelization of A New Hope, and in fact, made the first Star Wars sequel with his book Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, but it was removed. canon with the release of The Empire Strikes Back. In his writing career, he has also been in charge of other franchises such as Star Trek, Alien, and Terminator.

JJ Abrams chose Foster to write the novel for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, bringing the author back to the franchise after 15 years. While there were hints of romance throughout the trilogy, Finn eventually ended up alone. After the release of Episode VII, many fans speculated about the future relationship between the two protagonists of the film, Finn (John Boyega) and Rey (Daisy Ridley). Nothing explicitly romantic happened between the two, but there were a handful of moments that hinted at deeper feelings Finn had for Rey. Although Finn spent most of the movie The Last Jedi away from Rey and given a new love interest as newcomer Rose. Also in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker they featured another character, Jannah (Naomi Ackie), as a potential love interest for Finn.

Alan Dean Foster revealed that there was a romantic scene between Finn and Rey.

“There were a couple of things there, and a couple of things that happened later that bothered me. I’m going to tell you one thing that they made me take out because it’s been a long time, I don’t think it matters. Obviously, there was the beginning of a relationship between John Boyega’s character and Daisy Ridley’s character. I was hoping to see that unfold further in Episode VIII (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), and nothing happened between them. ”

Foster didn’t go into the details of the scene, but there are a few moments that hint at a broader romantic history between Finn and Rey throughout the sequel trilogy. In fact, it seems that Finn tries to reveal a secret to Rey in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but he never dares to say it and we are left wanting to know.
