Move over Lucifer, Cobra Kai is the new reigning king of Netflix now

Originally a YouTube Red (now YouTube Premium) exclusive, in less than 24 hours of its debut on the streaming network, Cobra Kai has transcended Lucifer as the most popular show on Netflix. The action comedy-drama web series started trending number one on the Netflix and on social media all around despite its initial release in May 2018.

A lot were unaware of the series that is 2 seasons old when it first premiered on Youtube. Cobra Kai has now found itself in the middle of a fame blizzard after transitioning thanks to the streaming giant and its power. With over 193 million viewers, Cobra Kai was bound to pick up the attention but overthrowing Lucifer was not predicted.

More about Cobra Kai:

Set 34 years after the original Karate Kid film, the series follows Johnny Lawrence’s journey who served as the antagonist in the original film. After opening his own dojo, his rivalry with Daniel LaRusso sparks yet again.

The franchise that first began in 1984, has a special place in the hearts of many who continue to enjoy this classic. With its revival in the form of a series, Cobra Kai was bound to hit nostalgia right on the nail.

Season 3:

With Netflix now taking over the reins, the streaming giant will premiere the highly awaited third season. While no official date has been set for the release of the third season, thanks to the new popularity, one might get to hear a new announcement real soon.

Thankfully, Cobra Kai wasn’t among the many that suffered due to the halt in production due to coronavirus outbreak. Therefore, the third follow up to the series will likely debut soon in 2021 on Netflix.

Reprising their original roles as Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso are William Zabka and Ralph Macchio respectively.

Further, returning to his portrayal of John Kreese, the main antagonist is Martin Kove. The actor continues to play the antagonist in the series as well. (Whoops! Spoiler alert.)

Joining the original cast members is Courtney Henggeler who plays the role of Amanda LaRusso, wife of Daniel and the co-owner of the LaRusso Auto Group. She plays a detrimental role in the reconciliation, or at least the beginning of, between LaRusso and Lawrence. (Whoops! Second spoiler alert!)

XoloMaridueña and Tanner Buchanan play the roles of Miguel Diaz, Johnny’s first dojo student and Robby Keene, Johnny’s estranged son, respectively.

The might look older, they might have changed but one thing that remains constant is the rivalry between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence which reignites with the resurrection of the Cobra Kai dojo.

Season 3 will disclose the mystery opponent LaRusso took on in The Karate Kid 2 and will also reveal Mr Miyagi’s secret.

The series is created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg and executive produced by William Zabka and Ralph Macchio.
