The CW prepares the NAOMI adaptation of DC Comics with New Gods director Ava DuVernay.

New Gods Director Ava DuVernay will be responsible for The CW’s small screen adaptation of Naomi, DC’s superhero comic series created by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker.

Ava DuVernay will team up with Arrow writer and co-executive producer Jill Blankenship to write and produce the project, which is based on the 2019 teen superhero story of the same title created by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, and the artist Jamal Campbell.

The comic series presents it like this. Fed up with the tranquility of the small town where she lives, Naomi McDuffie is fascinated by Superman when she witnesses a fight between him and Mongul, the despot from outer space. Shortly after, she learns that her locality experienced a similar event just the day her parents adopted her, and the young woman undertakes the search for her origins without suspecting how many surprises await her as she discovers all the information that her environment carries all life hiding him.

The series is expected to focus on “a teenage girl’s journey from her small northwestern town to the heights of the multiverse. When a supernatural event shakes her hometown to the core, Naomi sets out to discover her origins, and what she discovers will defy everything we believe in our heroes.”

Ava DuVernay will serve as executive producer through Array Filmworks in association with Warner Bros Television with Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes serving as producers.

The series will join other recently announced projects such as Wonder Girl and Black Lightning, Painkiller , as new content based on the DC Comics characters.
