The director of the film Killer Klowns from Outer Space says fans could help make the sequel come true.
The 1988 film Killer Klowns from Outer Space has become an indispensable piece of cult cinema over the years. Especially thanks to its strange premise, ghoulish murders, and its special effects. Now director Stephen Chiodo thinks it’s time to make a new installment and believes that the support of the fans is essential for this to happen
Look, MGM controls Killer Klowns from outer space. If the fans write MGM and say: “Where is our sequel? Where is that property? There are so many ways you can exploit this thing. But really the key is the fan base. The fan base has to talk more to MGM than to us because they control it. But I am so happy. That was a project that, we just wanted to make a movie that we loved. Once again, Forbidden Planet (1956), Invasion of the Body Bodies (1978), and all the movies we love are included in that. And I am very happy that people have responded ”.
Will it come to Netflix?
Stephen Chiodo also revealed that he spoke to Netflix about funding the sequel to Killer Klowns from Outer Space, after he received a popular response on the streaming platform, explaining:
“There is interest, and it ebbs and flows. You have some executives who really want to do it, and all of a sudden, musical chairs. They have left, a new regime has entered and they do not understand it. We will see how Xtraterrestrial Christmas (2020) goes with the people of Netflix. We’ll see if they can embrace our sensitivity. ”
Hopefully, the good relationship between the Chiodo brothers and Netflix will grow if Xtraterrestrial Christmas ( Alien Xmas ), their festive stop-motion production, turns out to be a hit with subscribers. We also don’t imagine that a sequel to Killer Clowns from Outer Space will be a particularly expensive project, especially if the Chiodo stick to practical effects, at least for most of the clown-based action.
What is the first movie about?
Killer Clowns from Outer Space is about aliens who land near a small town in the United States. These beings have the shape of clowns and their ship appears to be a circus tent, also their weapons look like toys but they are really deadly. Some young people discover the aliens and decide to alert the people, but are ignored. So the killer clowns start kidnapping people, as they put them inside cocoons that are made of cotton candy and turn them into a juice that they feed on. In the end, the town sheriff decides to believe in the threat and helps the youth stop these strange beings from space.
