The championship of the Suburban Conference Tournament Monday at the Paul Duffield Tennis Center was captured by The Shawnee Lady Wolves behind three first-place efforts. The individual crowns were bagged by seniors Olivia Stobbe (No. 1 singles) and Grace Bryant (No. 2 singles).
In fact, Shawnee also got to reap the benefits of the prizes during his No. 2 doubles combination of Anna Jordan and Kylie Peters. Stobbe managed to knock off the competitor from Guthrie by drawing a first-round bye at No.1 singles with 6-1 and 6-0.
Her Carl Albert opponent was then downed in the finals, 6-2 and 6-2. At No. 2 singles, we saw Bryant taking a similar path to Stobbe. Bryant got the way easily to defeat her Piedmont opponent after getting a first-round bye for 6-1, 6-0. In the finals, the match was then held between Carl Albert and Bryant who are plausibly considered foes.
But Bryant emerged victorious by beating her foe in the finals. We then witnessed the Peters-Jordan team rolling out victorious at No. 2 doubles in three straight shots. Peter and Jordan did upset the No. 2 seed team after opening with a 6-2, 6-1 decision over El Reno. The seed team was received from Carl Albert for 6-7, 6-3 (10-3) and then the Guthrie combo was thumped in the finals for 6-2, 6-2.
Carl Albert’s combo managed to top the Diamond and Looper for 6-0, 0-6 (10-2) and the Diamond-Looper team further managed to whip Guthrie too for 6-1, and 6-0 after drawing a first-round bye at No. 1 doubles.
