After the great success of the first installment released in 2019, they will make The Lion King 2 whose story will precede the original.

Disney has found a real gold mine remaking its animation classics since in total it has managed to raise more than 9,000 million dollars. And above all is The Lion King (2019) that reached more than 1,656 million dollars at the world box office. That is why it is normal that they are already planning the second installment and very soon we can see The Lion King 2 that will have nothing to do with the animated version that premiered in 1998 and went directly to the domestic market.

Several months ago there were reports that The Lion King 2 could be a combination sequel and prequel, jumping back and forth in time to present origin stories for both Mufasa and Scar. Where the true origin of their rivalry could be verified. A story that is definitely worth taking to the movies, as it could give a completely different vision of both.

The movie will be a totally new story.

But on Disney’s Investor Day, they have confirmed that The Lion King 2 movie will be a prequel. That still leaves the door open for flashbacks though, and after Jon Favreau’s blockbuster told almost exactly the same story as the beloved animation without offering any originality, it will be interesting to see how the new makers approach a story. brand new.

The director of The Lion King 2 will be Barry Jenkins responsible for Moonlight, a film that won three Oscars in 2017, Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (Mahershala Ali), and Best Adapted Screenplay (Barry Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney).
