The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) has applied to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to create an online marketplace for digital products such as NFTs, cryptocurrencies, digital media, and artwork.
If the exchange follows through on these ambitions, it will be in direct competition with OpenSea and Raible.
The NYSE released its inaugural set of NFTs in April, paying respect to six hot tech businesses that debuted on the world’s largest stock exchange, including Spotify, Roblox, and Coupang.
The exchange stated at the time that it was not selling the NFTs, but rather minting them for commemorative purposes.
With this recent trademark application, it’s evident that the NYSE has far bigger aspirations for NFTs
