Patty Spivot, the bubbly CCPD officer, left the show in its second season to study forensics. Everyone who has watched the show felt like her exit was quite abrupt. After almost four years, Shantel VanSanten has opened up about the reason.
VanSanten said in an interview that, “I don’t know if a whole lot of people know this, but I actually worked it out with my contract so I could finish the whole season and be around. But a showrunner that’s no longer on that show was very upset with me, and so he put me on a train all of a sudden, and I left.”
She was offered the role of Julie Swagger in the film Shooter along with other offers. When Shantel proposed to the team which worked in The Flash series then, one of the showrunners (the people who have overall creative authority and management responsibility for a television program) was not able to come to terms with it. Which led them to write off her character in a rush.
Though Shantel never mentioned the name of the showrunner, she did say that they no longer worked in the series anymore.
Unfortunately, this does not help us narrow down as all the four showrunners, Andrew Kreisberg, Todd Helbing, Aaron Helbing, and Gabrielle Stanton, have left the show.
But fans need not worry about her exit affecting the plot as the romance between Patty and Barry was brief and was never supposed to last. If you read the comic books, you would know that Iris West is Barry’s true love.
Though we have not seen their relationship attain its peak yet, we have hope that they would become the swoon-worthy couple described in the books one day. So stay tuned to watch the next season of The Flash premiering next year!
We hope this update made your day!
