Minor spoilers for ‘The Flight Attendant’.
“Taking a break would scare me,” Kaley Cuoco recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “They easily forget you. You have to stay relevant. But you also have to know when too much is too much. It’s a fine line. ”
‘The Big Bang Theory’ was successful for a lot of reasons, but a key ingredient was Penny, a character who, according to Cuoco herself, “represented the audience” by providing us with a gateway to the geek world.
Now that the series is over, there is a lot of pressure on Kaley’s return to television.
Yes, Harley Quinn technically came first, but ‘The Flight Attendant’ lands with the added pressure of being Cuoco’s return to television. In addition to being the star, Kaley also works as an executive producer on the series, taking on this role when ‘The Big Bang Theory’ came to an end.
Along the way, Cuoco has also had to deal with production delays and accidental fires on set. On top of all this, he had to tell a “little white lie” to give the show the green light. I mean, is ‘The Flight Attendant’ worth all that pressure?
Fortunately, yes, all of this chaos that played out off-camera helped make Kaley’s return to television even more successful by fueling what is already quite a chaotic premise.

During a CTAM digital panel in August, Kaley said that Cassie has “a roller coaster of trouble but a heart of gold,” and it is in this juxtaposition that Kaley extracts gold on her own, transforming what could have been plain paper. into something with much more depth. As unlikely twists begin to accumulate, Cuoco grounds the story by subverting the playfulness of his ‘Big Bang Theory’ character with a character who seems similar but is slowly cracking underneath this facade.

‘The Flight Attendant’ enjoys the absurd “camp” of the source material, veering between comedy and darker emotions, but the scenes in which Cassie hangs out in her mind with the murder victim may be too much for some, pushing the already lax limits of credibility.
Still, it’s a credit to Cuoco and the script that these moments work independently, giving Cassie someone to talk to about how crazy her life is at any moment.
And Cassie really needs an understanding shoulder to lean on. Between her alcoholism and the intrusive flashbacks stemming from long-buried childhood trauma, Kaley’s character is not doing too well for a murder suspect.
The protagonists often make silly decisions in these situations, and that happens to Cassie as well, but here, it’s completely believable that she doesn’t know what to do and the series reminds us of her anxieties in surprisingly realistic ways.
