Actor Daniel Radcliffe reveals that he has no social media accounts because he would have little patience with internet trolls.
Daniel Radcliffe rose to fame after giving life to Harry Potter in the cinema. The popular book series created by JK Rowling made it to the big screen in 2001. Radcliffe played the magician during all 8 installments. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was released in 2011. But although it has been almost 10 years since the end of the saga, it still has new anecdotes to share.
Despite his great fame thanks to the franchise, Daniel Radcliffe has not made the move to social media. During an interview with First We Feast, the actor revealed why he made this decision. One of the first reasons is that you think you would not have much patience with internet trolls. Radcliffe says he would get into constant fights and it is something he prefers to avoid.
“I would love to say that there is a very well thought out reason for this. Because there was a time when I considered creating a Twitter account. But I’m 100% sure you’d wake up every day with stories like ‘Dan Radcliffe gets into a fight with a random person on Twitter.’
Another reason for not joining Twitter or Instagram is the hateful comments you know you might end up getting. Daniel Radcliffe was exposed to criticism from a very young age and it is something he does not want to repeat in the future. You also don’t want to join in just to read good things, but you would like to find a middle ground. And since he believes that this is not going to happen, he prefers to stay on the sidelines.
“When I was younger, no longer thank God, I used to read comments about me on the Internet that said things like that. That is a bad thing to do and for me, Twitter and other social networks are like an extension of that. Unless I joined just to read good things about me, something that doesn’t seem very healthy either. Other than that, I don’t think I’m mentally strong right now. But I’m fine with that. ”
The truth is that there is a long list of actors and directors who have had to leave social networks after criticism from followers. The most recent to join the list is actress Letitia Wright after her statements about vaccines and the pandemic. So this type of boycott would be one of the situations that Daniel Radcliffe would prefer to avoid.
Although Daniel Radcliffe does not shy away from giving his opinion online when he sees it necessary and recently criticized the transphobic comments of JK Rowling. Despite this, you are in no rush to join social media. One of his colleagues who did create an Instagram account recently was Rupert Grint. The actor who plays Ron Weasley, Harry Potter’s best friend, took to Instagram a few weeks ago and shared a photo of his daughter.
