Actor Tom Holland was convinced that Marvel Studios was going to fire him after ‘Captain America: Civil War’. Holland, who made his debut as Spider-Man in the Joe and Anthony Russo film, in which Steve Rogers and Tony Stark faced off. Despite the overall positive reception of his presentation, Holland reveals that there was a point where he had a feeling that he would be fired from work even before the film was out in theaters.
So far, Holland has reprised the role of Peter Parker up to four more times after ‘Civil War’. The events of the 2016 film led directly to his first solo adventure, ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’. Next, we saw him in the climactic Avengers movies ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’. And his next solo adventure was ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’. He is now in fact preparing his third independent film, still untitled and due to hit theaters, initially, in December. Considering how beloved this version of the cobweb-throwing hero is, it’s hard to believe that Holland initially thought his season would only be in Civil War.
Speaking to fellow MCU star Daniel Kaluuya on Variety’s Actors on Actors, Holland reminisced about his start in the MCU. He even commented on the rigorous audition process, which included screening with Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans separately. Even after finishing his job on ‘Civil War’, he had a nagging feeling that he would lose his job on the MCU.
“From the time of filming ‘Civil War’ to ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’, I was convinced that I was going to be fired. I don’t know why. ‘Civil War’ hadn’t been released yet, and I just didn’t hear from anyone. I can’t really explain it. It was horrible, but it wasn’t, obviously. It’s been crazy, buddy. I loved every minute of it. “
Looking at his journey now, these statements by Holland sound striking: The young man has been the successor of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Despite rights conflicts between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment, the character has remained in the movies. ‘Spider-Man 3’ will arrive in December.
