HBO gives the green light to a reboot of its popular vampire series True Blood. The project is in the early stages of development.
HBO premiered True Blood for the first time in 2008. The series soon became a favorite on cable television. The title appeared at a perfect time for its development. The interest in vampires was soaring, thanks to new novels, movies, and series inspired by these characters. An interest undoubtedly led by the Twilight saga. Although True Blood was able to take advantage of the pull, the series offered something more. Scenes much more sexual and violent than any other contemporary title. The series ended in 2014, after the premiere of its seventh season. But HBO doesn’t want to wait long and has already greenlit a True Blood reboot.
As confirmed by Variety, the True Blood reboot is in the early stages of development. At the moment the cast or plot is unknown. It has also not been confirmed if any of the stars of the original series will appear in this project. Although this is unlikely. The series will re-adapt the stories from The Southern Vampire Mysteries, the novel series created by Charlaine Harris. The original series ended recently so it would not be necessary to reintroduce the stories already adapted to a new generation. So the reboot would adapt frames not seen before on screen.
Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale, Carrie) and Jami O’Brien (NOS4A2, Flesh, and Bone) join the project and will be in charge of writing the script for the True Blood reboot. Aguirre-Sacasa and O’Brien have experience working with HBO. They both worked in the 2011 series Big Love. In addition, the duo will serve as executive producers alongside Alan Ball. The latter was the showrunner of the original series for five of the seven seasons. So his vision would help capture the essence that so attracted the audience of the first adaptation.
For his part, Alan Ball believes that True Blood was a great chance for HBO and that it inspired the adaptation of Game of Thrones. At the time, HBO was betting on dramas and doing something True Blood seemed like a big risk. Although I end up being worth it. In the series, we are presented with a world in which humans and vampires can live in harmony. Vampires no longer hunt humans because they have found a substitute for blood that works the same way. This allows relationships to form between them. True Blood also featured other creatures such as werewolves and witches
True Blood starred Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, a waitress with special abilities. Also joining the cast were Alexander SkarsgÄrd, Joe Manganiello, Stephen Moyer, Sam Trammell, Ryan Kwanten, and Rutina Wesley. At the moment the new protagonists of True Blood are unknown. But HBO is expected to reveal it in the coming months. As production progresses.
